We have been working for some time on translating and setting up infrastructure for multiple languages for the SciPy.org website, and I am happy to report that we have achieved 100% translated content of the website for Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish and Japanese.
I am proposing a PR to adopt a similar workflow as NumPy.org already uses for the translations here: Add language switcher and translations by melissawm · Pull Request #617 · scipy/scipy.org · GitHub
This PR includes a preview of the language switcher functionality enabled by the Scientific Python Hugo Theme. There is no translated content so far as this is added in a separate step - but any feedback on this approach is appreciated.
